AFRICAN TRADITIONAL MEDICINE DAY

Africa follows WHO guidelines and 
gives example in the practice of 
Traditional Medicine


All 46 countries in the region celebrate the
Day of African Traditional Medicine

MT is in university curricula

In 2000 the Regional Committee adopted a resolution on Promoting the Role of Traditional Medicine in Health Systems based on recognition , institutionalization , research, intellectual property and advocacy of Traditional Medicine , and in 2007 , declared the MT research a priority , the MT research has been recognized as a need by the Algiers Declaration on Research for Health (2008) .
Thirty later in the Ouagadougou Declaration (2008 ) reiterated Ama Ata Declaration , which recognized practitioners of Traditional Medicine as part of the staff of the teams primary health care .
Governments in the region have established the Decade of African Traditional Medicine (2001-2010) and in 2003 adopted a Plan of Action to implement it .
Since 2003 all 46 countries of the region , its scientists and professionals of the two forms of medicine celebrate the Day of African Traditional Medicine .

In 2011 , in celebration , the theme was Conservation of Medicinal Plants , Equity Africa .A Brazilian religious sister Rosangela, which integrates the Group Traditional Medicine in Defense of Life , the Catholic Church in Guinea-Bissau , in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health , coordinated an exhibition of traditional remedies this day .Universities included Traditional Medicine in curricula of schools of medicine and pharmacy and training programs are designed for students of health professionals on MT and MT .

And the WHO Regional Director for Africa , Luis Sambo urged academic institutions and research for a compilation of inventories of medicinal plants , especially on the rare species of medicinal plants . 
Among the results of a survey (2010 ) on progress covering 39 countries, all created an Office of Traditional Medicine - MT - from the Ministry of Health developed national policies created 28 research institutes and legal frameworks for practice ; 25 countries had a National Commission of experts and 21 , legislation or regulations for professional practice of TM .
